  • Xenia  is a postdoctoral fellow working with Nate Sawtell, Larry Abbott and Daniel Wolpert on cerebellar control of locomotion in mice. 

  • Sepehr is a PhD student in the Neurobiology & Behavior program working with Michael Shadlen and Daniel Wolpert.

     He received an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Tehran. During his undergraduate studies, he conducted research on human visual perception using a combination of psychophysics and EEG methods. After graduation, he was a research technician at the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM) in Iran, where he gained further exposure to primate neuroscience. He also conducted research on time and distance perception in humans in Mehdi Sanayei’s lab. 

  • James Ingram received a BSc in zoology from the University of Melbourne in 1997 and a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Cambridge in 2012. He joined the group in March 2000. His research interests include the sensorimotor control of the arm and hand in humans, especially as it relates to object manipulation and tool use. His technical interests include the development of virtual reality and robotic systems for use in the study of human movement.

  • Carlos received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and his PhD in Psychology from Princeton University, where he was supervised by Jordan Taylor and Nathaniel Daw. His doctoral research examined how humans acquire complex motor skills that require sequential decision-making—such as playing musical instruments, video games, or dancing—by combining computational modeling with behavioral experiments.

    His current work focuses on understanding how reward and punishment shape motor learning and control. To this end, he develops computational models that integrate sensorimotor Bayesian inference with reinforcement learning. His long-term goal is to uncover the algorithms that enable humans to efficiently learn, store, and flexibly adapt motor skills.

  • Anvesh received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mumbai, and his Master of Technology degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. During his M.Tech, Anvesh worked on the development of a portable, powered exoskeleton to assist the ankle-joint movement during gait. Anvesh completed his PhD with Dr. Ambike at Purdue University in Health and Kinesiology, where he investigated hand-specific differences in the control of grasping forces during bimanual object manipulation.

    In the lab, he is working on contextual inference under uncertainty. He is interested in understanding how the human brain integrates decision-making and sensorimotor control to generate skilled and flexible movements. By using computational and neural principles, his long term goal is to uncover the basic mechanisms that lead to dexterity.
